Cranberry Glades Trail Map

Smack dab in the middle of marlinton and richwood and close to cranberry glades makes this a great trail for those visiting the area any time of year! You must stay on the trail/boardwalk at all times on this trail to not disturb the plants. The parking lot and trailhead will be on the right side of the road.

From the parking area, the trail is fairly level to where north fork trail #272 splits off to the south. In addition to being wilderness, it is a designated black bear sanctuary. Cranberry wilderness (47,815 acres) and cranberry backcountry (14,000 acres) make up one of the largest backpacking areas east of the mississippi river.

This small glade is one of the few corners of the bog that were spared from the bulldozers and clear cutters of the corporations busy turning the former state park into another piece of urbanized blight.

In the cranberry backcountry, this 18.9 mile circuit hike traverses a ridge of old growth forest, and follows the banks of cranberry river. The cranberry glades botanical area is one of the largest and most botanically significant bogs in the appalachian mountains.
